FCSI Update September 2018

Our Mission:

Strengthening the Student Body in Israel through

Prayer, Discipleship, Bible Study and Evangelism

What an amazing conference we had! The Mark Manuscript Bible Study Conference from August 29th to September 1st was such a great reminder to all of us that God is always in control and that His Word has so much power.
We were around 60 students and teachers from all different backgrounds, who studied the gospel of Mark with the inductive method. Through thoroughly reading the text, making observations, asking questions and discussing all of this in small groups, we learn more about Jesus and the Father.
In the end, we challenge ourselves with applications in order to get a more personal relation to the passage.

Especially amongst the Hebrew speaking students, we are very encouraged to see growth and in interest to invest into the “next generation” of Mark conference students, as two of the teachers, A* and R*, already committed to return next year and to not only participate in the third level of  the Mark course (‘Mark 3’), but also to teach Mark 1 and 2!

(*names omitted for security purposes)

“I love seeing how God speaks through his Word to the students, and how they learn more and more, and getting really engaged. To see the spark in their eyes when they understand something for the first time, despite knowing the passages so well.

Every time I’m teaching, I’m seeing the LIVING Word, the Word speaking to us, and we all are understanding something new about God and about ourselves.

Students could see the Kingdom of God through Mark, could meet Jesus as the King and understand their role in the Kingdom, as it is one of the main themes in the Gospel of Mark. The applications this year were really powerful!”

(Rasha, General Secretary of FCSI)

Every morning we started with a time of worship, and a devotion led by one of our staff. Two worship bands were playing, each consisting of Arab, Messianic Jewish and international students, praising the Lord in all three languages. The topics of the devotions were studying the bible for personal development, for group development, and for reaching out to others.

One Arab student who came to the ‘Mark 1′ class told Rasha that after the conference he started studying Revelation on his own, using the inductive method. It takes him 3 hours for each chapter and he is just finishing Chapter 3! We love seeing the students’ excitement about the Word of God, and how they apply what they have learned during the conferences.

Quotes

“You don’t know the impact the conference has on the lives of us students”

“All these new revelations… we felt like God slapped us in the face!”

“This one session about the different soils was like a pearl to me – that alone made it worth it for me to come to this conference”

… we also had a lot of fun between the sessions 🙂

TESTIMONY

Some of the students starting playing Arabic worship songs in our common room during the free time. A group of Muslim girls came by, stood by the door and listened. After a couple of songs they applauded and started talking to our students.

Praise the Lord for this opportunity to share about His love!

Please keep these girls, anonymously, in your prayers.

Even through hard times, when we prayed together in unity for healing for someone beloved, we could witness that Jesus has authority over everything. We remembered how the Lord is dealing with pain and sickness, and we are encouraged that He answers every prayer, but sometimes not as we expected it.

Afterwards many students came to us and told that this time of sharing prayer requests and coming together as brothers and sisters meant a lot to them. We really felt like a family, that can’t  and won’t be divided by different backgrounds or political opinions.

Naturally, when people come together to make decisions there can be disagreements and arguments. When there was a moment of frustration between different student committees after the conference, they took a minute to pause and one of the student leaders exclaimed: “We need to pay the price for unity, because Jesus paid the price for us to be united”

Wow, what an insight! We are so proud of our students – what they learned and took away from the conference, and how eager they are to apply God’s Word to their lives!

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.”
II Timothy 3:16

AMEN

We appreciate your prayers and support!

FCSI Update August 2018

Our Mission:

Strengthening the Student Body in Israel through

Prayer, Discipleship, Bible Study and Evangelism

We are in a season of preparation! From the 13th to the 14th of July, the FCSI Staff met up for a weekend to get ready for the new academic year. We are excited to see how God will be glorified through our students!

In June, the Arabic speaking students committee met in Nazareth. The meeting’s purpose was to set goals for the year and specific dates for conferences and training days. The committee chose a theme for the fall conference and distributed tasks for each committee member. The Lord directed our plans in prayer, as we set our hearts to work with the students groups for spreading the Gospel through various forms of outreach on campuses. It was a blessed time of fellowship, planning and praying.

From the 29th of August until the 1st of September, believing students from  all over Israel will come together for the Mark Manuscript Bible Study.

Our Students want to grow deeper in their own walk with God, and shifting from just believing in Jesus to following Jesus. They want to learn how to study the Bible for yourself and meet amazing fellow Hebrew, Arabic, and International student believers.

We are excited for this amazing opportunity and love to share with you a glimpse into the Mark Manuscript Bible Study conference from Spring this year:

Why we encourage our students to go to the Mark Manuscript Bible Study?
Here are just a few reasons why…

ADOPT A STUDENT

Thanks to all those who have replied and adopted a student for the Mark Manuscript Conference! It is such an encouragement und blessing to see how YOU are involved in the student ministry in Israel and make a change in a student’s life.

We are still in need for more scholarships. The cost per student is €100 / $120. It’s not only an investment in this particular student in his or her personal growth, but the equipment of a witness for Christ on an Israeli campus! We invite you to be part in building God’s Kingdom here amongst Jews, Arabs and people from all over the world.

Testimony from a FCSI Student

At the beginning of the second year, we were looking for a subject for our film, an annual project under the Communications Department. After a suggestion and a push from the lecturer, we decided to make the film about faith through a personal testimony.

The decision was made after very clear instruction from the Lord, and the film was screened on the 5th of July 2017 in a settlement in the North.

This year, the third year of studies, I began searching for an internship in my field of study. After two months of searches, on the 5th of July 2018, I was officially accepted to a place of work in the field on exactly the same date that the film had been screened a year earlier.

I thank God so much!! When you ask Him for clear guidance and reinforcement regarding the choices you make, He is faithful to guide you and put you in the right places at the right time.

During the summer months, while our students prepare for their exams and writing papers, the FCSI staff and student committee prepare for the next Mark Manuscript Bible Study Conference in August, and plan for the new upcoming  academic year!

The  Mark Manuscript Bible study conference is one of the most popular conferences, so we are offering it a second time this year! From the 29th of August until the 1st of September, believing students from every university and college in Israel will come together to not only discover the Gospel anew, but to also learn how to  study the Word in depth on their own.

We realised that there is a huge lack of teaching these kind of tools here in Israel. The students are hungry to learn more and to grow in their faith, so that they can be more powerful witnesses to their peers, friends, families and society.

Testimonies from Students:

“The Inductive Bible study guides to the right understanding of the Word of God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit I can apply it to my life.”

“I realized what an authority God’s Word has in my life!”

“The Bible has come alive”

“Before I just read the Bible, now I study it and know God’s Word much better!”

“I really loved the fact that during the whole conference we were focused on the Word of God all the time!”

ADOPT A STUDENT

In the past we have given scholarships to students who can afford coming to the conference, and we feel led by God to continue so. However, we cannot provide enough support for all the demand.

FCSI Update May 2018

Our Mission:

To have JESUS in the centre in everything we do

From May 10th – 12th, FCSI held the Joint Conference in Baptist Village near Petach Tikva. Around 120 students from the groups all over Israel came together for a time of fellowship, training and worship! The theme was “Jesus in the Centre” – and indeed, He is the centre and the one that brings unity to believers from different backgrounds and denominations.

Pastor Bishara Deeb from the Yaffa-Nazareth Baptist Church and Jonathan Goldman from the Pniel Fellowship in Tiberias were the main speakers of the conference and they encouraged the students to always keep Jesus in the centre – not only in their private life but also on campus.

Different seminars were offered on two days, from “Conflict Resolution” to “Success and Failure in God’s Eyes”; seminars about God’s authority, the struggles of being a believing student on  an unbelieving campus in Israel, to the importance of knowing God’s word fully.

The Student Committee organised a wonderful conference and we could feel God’s presence in our time together. Students were encouraged and strengthend in their walk of faith, and new friendships across the different groups were made.

On Friday night, many congregation leaders and ministry workers in Israel came to honour Zaher and his legacy for FCSI of the past 16 years. With video messages, greetings, songs and words of appreciation, our former General Secretary was sent off and blessed for this new stage of life.

Rasha Saba was officially announced to be the new General Secretary of FCSI – the first female General Secretary in the Middle East!
We are very blessed with these faithful workers of the Lord, and we are excited to see what God is doing here in the Land in the next years.

We would appreciate your prayers for these issues:

  1. The new General Secretary Rasha Saba – blessings, wisdom and favour for her new role

  2. The time of transition for Zaher Hadad, the former General Secretary

  3. FCSI financial challenges and needs – despite all the challenges we believe that God will provide through means and people He has called to support us
